Its all about the pencil

I love working with pencils, especially when they are the Derwent Inktense pencils, lately I have been kind of addicted to them, I just love using them for backgrounds in my art journal.  Combine them with another of my favorite mediums, gesso and I think you have a match made in heaven. . .

I was excited to see this video of the factory in England where they are made. I love seeing the behind the scenes of how  products are made, I am kind of a geek that way.

So here is the video . . enjoy!

They come in 72 lovely colors. . . . my goal is to own them all!

and if you haven’t tried them yet, you NEED to get some. Just sayin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gelli Printed Bag

I decided to make a bag to hold either my ipad or my mini art journal and pencil case and I came up with this.

I aded Ranger fabric medium to the paints before I used them to print.  The whole bag has been printed with soft blues and greens, with the heart being done with a bright red and orange color combination.

You can see the layers of prints that were done in this close up view.  The dribbles were done with Dina Wakley’s paints watered down and added to a needle top bottle which can give you precise application when writing but I just needed to be able to dribble on the one side.  The word was done with a stencil girl stencil.

Art Journal Page

this is the class project for Adventures in Art Journaling for September.

I used ColorWash fabric spray by Ranger along with gesso for the background and pieces of Gelli prints and collage papers for my little village.

I have been reading recent facebook posts by Ken Oliver, who is talking about and showing images of the small town he recently moved to.  Ken is making me want to try living in a small village so I think this is where the inspiration for this page came from.

You can take this class with me on Thursday September 18th or Saturday September 20th.

edited to add:  The class on September 20th is sold out

Working in a mini Art Journal

I have this little Canson Mix Media Journal and I usually use it to brayer left over paint or wipe my used paintbrush in it.  I started working in it recently completing some of the pages.

I used stamps from Dina Wakley, 7 Gypsies and Dylusions.  There is a little Gelli Print added to the top of the left page and the bottom of the right page.
